Meteor’s greatest battle

HAS BEEN TO RESIST THE SIREN SONGS OF THE LARGE INTERNATIONAL BREWERY GROUPS, KEEN TO BUY OUT BREWERIES AND INCREASE THEIR MARKET SHARE!

Our 2nd commitment is to protect the environment, and there’s nothing new about this as, in 1948, in the great days of coal, the brewery had already installed a 150 KW steam alternator to produce much of its electricity.

Concerned for the environment, METEOR invested 2 million euros in 2003 in an integrated sewage treatment plant that allows it to discharge totally purified water into the natural environment (the River Zorn) and recover agricultural sludge for use by partner farmers.

Today, we are challenging our production lines to reduce their expenditure on water and energy. In the last 20 years we have already made a 30% saving on the water used for brewing.

All the brewery’s waste is sorted and recovered via accredited networks: Cardboard/ Plastic/ Metal/ Glass. 500 to 600 tons of CO² a year produced by the fermentation of the beer are also recovered by liquefaction.

In 2015, we were proud to be the first brewery to be awarded ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification: we reduced our energy consumption by 15% between 2012 and 2015. And we intend to do the same again for 2017!

Meteor supports returnable glass. Returnable glass is more ecological (reduced water and energy consumption and lower production of greenhouse gases)

METEOR is today the biggest independent, own-brand brewer in France and the Haag family has managed to maintain a workforce of around 200 since the 1960s. The employees repay this consideration with their loyalty, as the current average length of service is 17 years, and when our interests are threatened, all our employees rally round, as, for example, to demonstrate against the rise in the tax on beer at the end of 2012.

Proud of its French and Alsatian origins, METEOR is committed to promoting its region: it was a pioneer in creating the Alsace brand. It was also one of the companies that, in 1996, founded the “Club des Saveurs d’Alsace”, a group of 9 companies committed to promoting and developing Alsatian gastronomy.
